Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique seemed to confirm Kylian Mbappe’s imminent departure from the club as he wished the Frenchman “the best”.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The former Spain national team coach dropped Mbappe from the Parisians’ starting lineup during their underwhelming 2-2 draw at home to Reims. The World Cup winner was brought on in the 73rd minute of the game but failed to make an impact on proceedings.
WHAT ENRIQUE SAID
Talking to Amazon Prime Video after the game, Luis Enrique said: “I wish all the best to Kylian Mbappé for his future. He’s a fantastic player and even more as a person. I really wish him all the best.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Spaniard’s comments have all but confirmed the 25-year-old’s upcoming departure from the French capital, as has been apparent for the last few weeks. Luis Enrique has been regularly either benching or subbing off Mbappe as he prepares the team for a future without the former Monaco forward, who is set to leave the club when his contract expires in June.
WHAT NEXT FOR MBAPPE?
The likeliest destination for Mbappe has been touted as 14-time Champions League winners Real Madrid. The French forward has been linked with a move to the Spanish capital ever since his rise to fame with Monaco in 2017 and it appears that the move will finally come to fruition this summer.
