NIGERIA: The camp of Atiku Abubakar has accused the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike of riding on a mandate from the All Progressives Congress, APC administration to kill the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The Atiku camp spoke through Paul Ibe, media adviser to the former vice-president in an interview on Channels Television.
He spoke as he fended off accusation of falling short of expectations of a potential president of the country who has been unable to unify his party.
He also spoke against the assertion’s of Mr George Akume that the reelection of President Bola Tinubu has become a done deal. Akume had on that basis issued an advisory to Atiku to bid his time till 2031.
Challenged on the capacity of Atiku Abubakar to govern Nigeria given his challenges managing the crisis in the PDP, Mazi Ibe said:
“I restate it that the process to bring back the party from the precipice is still ongoing. We know what has been going on in the PDP. You and I know and Nigerians know that the PDP has become the playground of the APC in their quest to destroy the opposition and not just the PDP even Labour [Party], using the FCT minister.
“He is the Man Friday, he has a mandate and his mandate is to kill the PDP. That is the only mandate that he has in the PDP; to kill it. Everybody knows it.”
Before citing the Wike mandate as being only to destroy the PDP, the Atiku spokesman also dismissed missing the claim by Akume that there would be no vacancy in the presidency in 2027.
Mazi Ibe dismissed the claim and said that it was an attempt by the APC to kidnap the aspiration of Atiku Abubakar and other northern leaders bent on freeing the country from the challenges brought about by the APC administration.
“Why must we reward a student who did not pass his exams with promotion. It seems as if the job of Akume is to kidnap the aspiration of any northerner
“Must we be playing politics with everything. I think it was irresponsible of the SGF to say that he would kidnap the aspiration of northern leaders,” the Atiku spokesman said following the assertions on the mandate of Wike to destroy the PDP.
