…Campaign gets more $7.1 million after booking into Atlanta jail
The approval rating of former President Donald Trump has remained strong despite his indictment and subsequent booking into jail last week of accusations of discrediting the US presidential elections of 2020.
Donald Trump, who popularized his mug shot by tweeting it on his X handle with funny comments and a meme, received most financial support for his presidential race within the period.
Besides, his popularity within his Republican party also soared with most of his rivals also promising to give him their weight if he emerged the party’s candidate.
Even some of his fellow GOP presidential ticket rivals say they’ would back Trump if convicted.
Trump is currently facing four indictments, including two related to his false claims that the election was stolen and the Jan. 6, 2021 attack by his followers on the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
On August 15, Trump was indicted by a Georgia grand jury after an investigation by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis into his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss to Biden in the state.
On August 3, he pleaded not guilty to charges brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith in federal court in Washington that he conspired to defraud the United States by preventing Congress from certifying Biden’s 2020 election victory over him and to deprive voters of their right to a fair election.
He has also pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawfully keeping classified documents after leaving office, and of falsifying business records in a case in New York related to the payment of so-called hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.
His arrest and subsequent detention has since turned from a disgrace to popularity as he continues to enjoy solidarity of his supporters who tend to create a hero out of him.
The Trump campaign organization declared weekend that it has raised nearly $20 million in the past three weeks, a period that roughly coincides with his indictment in federal and state cases over allegations that he falsely claims that the 2020 election was stolen from him.
Trump spokesman, Steven Cheung, declared on X, former Twitter, that the campaign organization raked in $7.1 million since appearing to have his mug shot taken in a racketeering and fraud case in Atlanta, Georgia.
On Friday alone, Trump brought in $4.18 million, making it the highest-grossing day of his campaign so far, Cheung said.
The shot of Trump with a red tie, glistening hair, and an icy scowl was taken as the Republican presidential front-runner was arrested on more than a dozen felony charges, part of a criminal case stemming from his attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
His mug shot, posted by a Georgia courthouse on Thursday evening, has sparked a fashion trend across the United States with producers churning out thousands of T-shirts, shot glasses, mugs, posters and even bobble-head dolls stamped with Trump’s jail image.
Chris Christie said on Sunday that the “most amazing part” of the first Republican primary debate was seeing the majority of candidates say they would support Donald Trump as the party’s nominee even if the former president is criminally convicted.
However, in speaking on ABC’s “This Week” with co-anchor Martha Raddatz, the former New Jersey governor, who is challenging Trump as one of his most vocal conservative critics in the primary, dismissed the possibility “that you can have a convicted felon as our nominee for president” and that Trump could potentially win against President Biden.
