KUNLE OLUTAYO

The Randle General Hospital, Surulere, Lagos, in partnership with Esteemed Life Savers Initiative, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has recently held a Voluntary Blood Donation programme to further encourage voluntary blood donation and raise awareness of Sickle Cell disease.

Speaking on the blood donation exercise, carried out with the support of Lagos State Transfusion Service and the Blood Transfusion Committee of the Hospital, the Medical Director of Randle GH, Dr. Mobolaji Olumide Sojinrin, commended the initiative and described it as a complementary effort towards saving more lives in Lagos State.

Sojinrin, who spoke through Dr. Abosede Adabale, the Chairman of the Randle General Hospital, Surulere Blood Transfusion Committee, said the hospital identified with the NGO’s call for voluntary blood donation because of the importance of blood in saving human lives, promising that the facility will continue to partner with private and Non-Governmental Organisations to ensuring quality healthcare delivery for Lagosians.

The Medical Director emphasised the need for joint actions in the fight against Sickle Cell disease, stressing that the populace needs to be aware of its causes, how it can be curbed as well as the need for people to be careful not to fall victim to it.

Mr. Mutolib Areago, co-convener of the Esteemed Life Saver Initiative, appreciated the Management and the entire Staff of the Hospital for the partnership and efforts in attending to Lagosians who responded to the call for voluntary blood donation.

He revealed that the voluntary donors were medically examined to check if they were fit to donate blood by taking their blood pressure, weight and height among others.

Areago also disclosed that the blood donation exercise was a tribute to the Founder of the Esteemed Life Saver Initiative, Miss Samiat Mubor who lost her life to Sickle Cell disease on the 16th of May, 2022.
