…French Minister signs MOU with Kwara Govt

“French is a language of culture, but also a language of business and opportunities for all those who learn it. Our language creates links between populations of 88 countries across the world. It is amazing to see the demand for learning French in Nigeria, and we are delighted to work with the state of Lagos to support access to French classes.”

It is with these words that Mrs Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, French Minister of State for development, francophonie and international partnerships, began her declaration after signing a letter of intent for the promotion of the french language in the state of Lagos with the Vice Governor of Lagos state.

The signature of this letter of intent is an opportunity to reconfirm the past commitments but also to mark the official launch of an ambitious programme to modernize the teaching and learning of French in public secondary schools.

Also, Mrs. Zacharopoulou visited Ilorin to mark the growing cooperation of France with Kwara State in agriculture and culture, accompanied by H.E. Samuela Isopi, Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria.

This French official visit is the first one by a foreign Minister to Kwara State where she congratulated H.E. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his reelection and his nomination as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

Together, they witnessed the signing of two significant agreements: An MOU between Kwara State and the French company BRLI tasked with conducting a EUR 500,000 feasibility study granted by the French authorities on the modernization of the livestock value chain in the Lata grazing reserve.

Also, a Memorandum of Understanding formalizing the relocation of the Alliance Française Ilorin within the Innovation Hub. The generous offer of the Governor of Kwara of a space of 120 m² will enable the cultural and linguistic centre to attract its public in modern classrooms and facilities.
