LAGOS, Nigeria – The Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon Lasbat Mojisola Meranda has resigned from her post after serving 49 days in that capacity.
Other principal officers of the Assembly, including the Chief Whip and his Deputy, the Majority Leader and his Deputy also resigned.
A new set of leaders were also elected by voice votes after the resignation.
Meranda, in her resignation speech, appreciated her colleagues for their gallantry. She said her resignation was to allow for peace in the tumultuous Assembly where the impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa was laying hold to the office.
