ABUJA, Nigeria – Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has clarified the usage of Eagle Square, emphasising that it was never approved for any activities that could compromise public safety.
Wike gave the clarification yesterday after inspecting an ongoing road project connecting two communities in Abaji Area Council.
This statement comes amidst the ongoing implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at positively impacting all areas, particularly rural communities.
“This is all about the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President to make sure that every area is impacted positively. I can’t tell you how happy I am to see the connections between the various communities which will, of course, improve their means of livelihoods and transportation,” Wike stated.
He highlighted the administration’s commitment to not just the city center but also to developing satellite towns.
Wike explained the strategic importance of enhancing rural infrastructure to reduce urban migration.
“We are also trying to open up the satellite towns because it is the belief of Mr. President to discourage people from migrating to the city. Why do people migrate to the city? It is because there are no infrastructures. When you provide this type of infrastructure, it discourages people from going to the city. Urban and rural migration is discouraged,” he noted.
The Minister addressed misconceptions about the administration’s efforts, urging patience and understanding.
“Most people who complained have not had the opportunity to really visit the rural areas and see what the Renewed Hope is all about. Just within one year of Mr. President’s administration, see the kind of infrastructure that is being provided within our rural areas,”
Wike pointed out, stressing that significant developments are taking place outside the city.
Highlighting the support for President Tinubu’s initiatives, Wike noted the alignment of rural communities with the government’s vision.
“People saying nothing is happening in the rural areas, you can attest to the fact that things are really happening. They have seen, that is why they have all aligned to support Mr. President,” he said.
Wike urged Nigerians to engage in dialogue rather than violent protests, which he believes do not benefit the nation.
The Minister also praised the unprecedented progress in the FCT under President Tinubu’s administration.
“Even the press can attest to the fact that this has never happened before in the administration of FCT. What we are saying is that today is a complete revolution to transform our rural areas. We are happy, the Honourable Minister of State and our people are very happy with what we are seeing in the satellite towns,” he remarked.
In addressing security concerns, Wike reassured the public of the government’s commitment to maintaining safety and protecting infrastructure.
“We don’t want to take anything for granted; we want to make sure that security is tight and intact. I never approved the use of Eagles Square to anybody; maybe that must have informed the security to make sure all the public areas are well protected and will not allow hoodlums to take advantage and begin to vandalize our infrastructure,” he concluded.
