Former Nigeria international Jonathan Akpoborie, has sponsored free medical procedures for indigent Nigerians in Ajegunle, Lagos.
Ajegunle, on the mainland, is one of Lagos State’s most neglected areas, although it has continuously produced stars in entertainment and sports, such as artist Daddy Showkey and Akpoborie himself.
Who is Akpoborie?
Akpoborie was a member of the Nigerian team that won the first FIFA U-16 Championship in 1985, scoring in the final against West Germany. He played for the Flying Eagles at the 1987 FIFA World Youth Championship in Chile two years later.
He was chosen for the Africa Cup of Nations in 1992 and 2000, when he earned bronze and silver, respectively. His first senior cap came in a third-place match against Cameroon in the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations, which the Super Eagles won.
