As the countdown to the 2024 gubernatorial election in Edo State continues, the New Nigerian People’s Party, NNPP, candidate in the state, Peter Okoeguale, over the weekend, met with the Kano State Governor-elect, Engr. Abba kabir Yusuf; Vice Presidential candidate in the last election, Bishop Isaac Idahosa and other important stakeholders of the party in a crucial meeting in London, England.

The meeting was centred basically on the upcoming polls in Edo, as well as Okoeguale’s participation as the party’s flagbearer. Reports say deliberations, though at an early stage, reveals that the party’s top hierarchy both in the state and across the nation have thrown their weight behind the Esan-born candidate to fly the party’s flag at the polls, come next year.

Idahosa and Kabir, along with other party faithful, it is reported, have assured Okoeguale of the full support of the party come next year. As it is now, the young philanthropist, it is safe to say, is the anointed candidate of the NNPP come 2024 in Edo.

Okoeguale, while speaking at Heathrow Airport in London, expressed gratitude to the party chieftains and stakeholders for their unalloyed support, stressing that he would not let the party down and that he was ready to give the process his best shot.

“Our meeting has been very fruitful and worthwhile. Of course, there are so many things I cannot divulge for now because deliberations are still ongoing and we still have to keep a lot of things close to our chest for now.

“Be that as it may, let me say it is looking bright. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. I do believe that Edo State needs a young, dynamic individual with the love of the people at heart. I mean one who has genuine ideas on how to move the state forward and engage the teeming talented youths in the state, so as to channel their energy in the right direction.

“Edo people – old and young – need to have a sense of hope and someone with a pragmatic approach and solution to the problem on ground. I am ready to give it my all and with the support of my party, the NNPP, the sky can only be our beginning.”
