Disgraced former Barcelona defender Dani Alves has been spotted partying until the early hours following his release from prison on bail.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Alves partied until 5am in the morning at his villa in Esplugues de Llobrega following his release from prison, according to Telecinco (via TyC Sports). The party was to celebrate Alves’s father’s birthday, with the former Barcelona defender starting off in a restaurant before heading home to continue into the early hours.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The party reportedly came just a day after Alves was released from prison on bail. Alves was allowed to walk free having spent 14 months behind bars, after his €1 million (£850,00/$1.09m) bail bond was paid. Alves has appealed his conviction after being found guilty of rape and sentenced to four years and six months in jail and is now awaiting a final verdict. The Brazilian has also had to give up his passports and must attend court on a weekly basis as part of his bail terms.
WHAT HAS BEEN SAID ABOUT ALVES
There has been speculation over how Alves managed to pay his bail bond. Neymar’s father has denied rumours that he paid the money to ensure the Brazilian’s release, while former Barcelona team-mate Memphis Depay’s agent has also insisted the Dutchman was not involved. Sebastien Ledure told Informativos Telecinco: “This is fake news. It is false news, it is not true at all.”
WHAT NEXT FOR DANI ALVES
The 40-year-old may be able to enjoy his freedom for some time. According to Marca, his appeal may not be heard until the start of 2025.
