Carlo Ancelotti Clears Up Real Madrid’s Penalty-Taker Order After Jude Bellingham Steps Up From 12 Yards Following Kylian Mbappe’s Miss Against Liverpool

Carlo Ancelotti has cleared up Real Madrid’s penalty-taker order after Jude Bellingham, and not Kylian Mbappe, scored from the spot against Getafe.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Mbappe has been taking penalties for Madrid this season but the Frenchman missed a spot-kick against Liverpool in the Champions League in midweek. In Los Blancos’ 2-0 win over Getafe in La Liga on Sunday, Jude Bellingham scored from the spot and Mbappe also got on the scoresheet. Now, manager Ancelotti has explained who is the first-choice penalty taker, while including what happens when the injured Vinicius Junior is back fit.

WHAT CARLO ANCELOTTI

He told reporters after the win: “Vinicius [Junior] wasn’t there and the order is Mbappe or Vini, and today it was Bellingham or Mbappe. And both of them chose Bellingham.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Despite all the talk of Mbappe struggling to adapt at Madrid and the club’s injury issues, they are just one point behind league leaders Barcelona and they have a game in hand. While they are underwhelming in the Champions League, they are right in the La Liga title race.

WHAT NEXT?

Ancelotti’s Madrid are next in La Liga action when they are away to fourth-placed Athletic Club on Wednesday, before travelling to seventh-positioned Girona next Saturday.
