Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer Not Fretting Losing Captaincy Of German National Team

Manuel Neuer is not bitter

Bayern Munich and German national team goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was in the uncomfortable spot of having his captain’s armband taken from him.

Neuer addressed the situation and said there is no issue with Julian Nagelsmann’s appointment of İlkay Gündoğan.

“For me, not much has changed. I’m still an important part of the team, including in discussions with the players. Communication is important, but that is also part of goalkeeping. I was not available at the time [when Gündogan was named captain], but I accepted the situation,” Neuer said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Another player, who might have been in line for captain consideration in Neuer’s absence from Germany is Bayern Munich teammate Thomas Müller. The goalkeeper said that he and his fellow veteran get along very well.

“We just get on well, on and off the pitch. He’s a brilliant character who give everything to the team. Even when he’s not playing, he brings everything in, tries to coach and help. And when he’s called upon, he’s always there. I’m glad I was able to spend my career with players like that.”
