Serie A champions, AC Milan, are prepared to hamper any move by Spanish giants, Real Madrid, for their sensational player, Rafael Leao.
The Italian club, being uncomfortable with reports that Madrid are considering making a move for the Portuguese player, ponder on increasing Leao’s release clause from €150m to €250m.
Madrid are in search of a replacement for their summer number one target Kylian Mbappe, having missed out on signing the Paris Saint-Germain star for the second time.
Mbappe was reportedly on his way to Real Madrid on a free transfer but ditched a move to the Spanish capital to extend his contract with Les Parisien.
However, according to emerging reports in Spain, Los Blancos have decided to turn their attention to Leao, who was instrumental in Milan’s Scudetto win and was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 2021-2022 Serie A season.
Also, Italian media AS, had earlier reported that a €150m released clause is not enough to starve off Real Madrid from making a move for the player, instigating Milan to review his contract clauses to ensure their prized asset is secured in San Siro.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Real Madrid are preparing a €120m offer for the 22-year-old and would, according to Fichajes.com, face a possible battle with Manchester City, who are considering him as a potential replacement to Raheem Sterling, for the player’s signature.
Leao, who joined Milan from Lille in 2019 in a five-year contract worth €23m, became the youngest Portuguese player to hit the 10 goals tally in a singular Serie A season on May 1 against Fiorentina.
